Dr. Anthony Fauci said Thursday that the pace of COVID-19 vaccinations is picking up steam — and that by April it will be “open season” for virtually everyone to receive the jab.
Fauci, who serves as science adviser to President Joe Biden, told NBC’s “Today” that the rate of vaccinations will greatly accelerate in the next two months.
He credits forthcoming deliveries of the two approved vaccines, Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, the potential approval of a third and moves taken by the Biden administration to increase the nation’s capacity to deliver doses.
The top US infectious diseases expert said that “by the time we get to April,” it will be “open season, namely virtually everybody and anybody in any category could start to get vaccinated.”
He cautioned, however, that it will take “several more months” to logistically deliver shots to adult Americans, but predicted that herd immunity could be achieved by late summer.
