Madalyn Davis, the 21-year-old British tourist and Instagram model who plunged to her death from a Sydney cliff while allegedly pursuing a selfie, was drunk and high off of a toxic cocktail of alcohol and drugs, The Sun reports.
That’s according to an inquest into the death of Madalyn Davis, who supposedly took her Instagram habits so far they may have caused her death in the end.
Instagram model Madalyn Davis’s death occurred after she climbed over a fence and sought a sunrise selfie in Diamond Day, which is in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, on January 12.
Her body was ultimately found deep below the ocean’s surface.
The backpacker’s body was found 55ft below the surface of the sea, wedged in a rock shelf, an inquest hearing at Nottingham Coroner’s Court was told
Madalyn Davis, the doomed Instagram model, met her death after she left a house party in search of a “selfie hotspot.”
After she plunged from the cliff, one of the men who accompanied Madelyn Davis on the Instagram model’s walk to her own death exclaimed, “She’s gone.”
Nottinghamshire assistant coroner Gordon Clow told the inquest that drugs and alcohol had “impaired” Davis’ “decisions and balance.”
According to Yahoo! News, emergency services arrived at the scene of Davis’ watery grave at about 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 12. They pulled her body from the water some four hours later.
Mr. Clow described the 21-year-old’s death as a “great tragedy”.
According to the toxicology report, Madalyn Davis had ingested cocaine, ketamine and MDMA before the Instagram model plunged to her death.
“There is no safe way to consume alcohol and drugs, her death was at a beauty spot which people seek to enjoy, it will doubtless not be the last,” Clow insisted at the inquest.
“It was a very great tragedy of someone trying to live their life to the full.”
According to the BBC, Davis had been traveling in Australia for a few weeks and had previously been to Thailand.
Signs warn tourists to stay away from the cliff edge and the height of fences in the area had been increased, according to a local mayor.
News.com.au reports that the grieving mother of Madalyn Davis has pleaded with the global online troll community to leave the Instagram model’s memory in peace in the wake of her widely mocked death.
Rebecca Smith has sought to defend her deceased daughter, saying that she made a terrible mistake and never deserved to be smashed to bits by the ocean’s surface and the rocks in the murky fathoms below.
‘My daughter was not self-obsessed, she was a wonderful beautiful person that made a mistake,” the mom wrote on Instagram, Madalyn Davis’ social-media site of choice and the apparent cause of her death.
“How can you write such things? She has a little sister and brother who could be reading this.”
Ms Smith also posted a series of photos to her Instagram stories which included a message to those who had left hurtful remarks. In one post, she mocked trolls, writing: “She always wanted to be famous, so thank you trolls, you are making this happen.”
