Week 3 of FCS football is on the horizon and the 25-game card features 13 matchups. Conference play in the spring portion of this year’s FCS regular season begins Friday, Feb. 27. Watch FCS online without cable.

Predicting the FCS playoff bracket is going to be as difficult as it’s ever been for the 2021 spring season. The 24-team bracket has been reduced to 16 teams. The typical format is 10 auto-bids from 10 conferences and 14 at-large bids. This spring, there will be 10 auto-bids and only six at-large bids.

Six-game conference-only schedule, beginning Feb. 27 and ending April 10 (Montana, Montana State, Northern Colorado, Portland State and Sacramento State not planning to participate in spring conference season).

The Division I subdivision elected to postpone what would’ve been the 2020 fall season to the spring due to COVID-19, creating a unique slate that will culminate with a 16-team taking place from Apr. 18 to May 16.

FCS spring college football preview

Each conference has its own start date and number of games, but over the course of the next two months you’re going to have the opportunity to catch a lot of interesting teams and players.

With an eye to variety, here are the five games that could be most worth watching each week, along with the storyline most worth paying attention to. The rankings listed next to each team are their preseason rankings from last August. Not every preseason top-25 team is playing this spring, but most are. Source: ESPN

If the Eagles are going to repeat their gaudy offensive numbers from 2019, they’ll need Barriere to shine. Eastern Washington led the FCS in total offense last season, averaging 524.8 yards per game, and finished second in scoring offense, by racking up 40.6 points per outing.

Barriere is one of the most talented pivots in the FCS, throwing for over 3,712 yards and 31 TD in 2019, but given the amount of turnover within the program, nobody should be surprised if the Eagles get off to a slow start. Also working against them, is an incredibly tough matchup versus an excellent Idaho defense.
