Scotland’s leader on Wednesday admitted breaking her own strict COVID-19 rules after she was photographed in a pub without a mask.

“This was a stupid mistake and I’m really sorry,” First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said after the Scottish edition of The Sun published a front page photo of her talking to a group of women last Friday without a face covering.

“I talk every day about the importance of masks, so I’m not going to offer any excuses,” said the leader of the Scottish Government.

“I was in the wrong, I’m kicking myself, and I’m sorry,” she said.

Sturgeon, the leader of the Scottish National Party, admitted the mistake only after The Sun showed her talking to a group of women in a pub following a funeral in Edinburgh last week.

It was printed just a day after Sturgeon made her latest speech in the Scottish parliament about the importance of wearing masks. Under a law passed by her party, customers in pubs and restaurants must cover their faces unless seated at a table.

Her political rivals, the Scottish Conservatives, tweeted out The Sun’s front cover, saying that Sturgeon “should know better.”

“There cannot be one rule for Nicola Sturgeon and another for everyone else,” the party said.
